The Tale of Tommy and Teresa Trout:
A Learning Journey from Egg to Fry

Julianna M. Cruz
with Illustrations by Jennifer Anderson

Join Tommy and Teresa on their learning journey as they travel to new places and meet new friends.

“The first thing I observed was the two trout twisting, but not just twisting. They were twirling together, like they were doing it on purpose. It was like they were trying to tell me something... When they were twirling they made the gravel form a capital T,” Celeste said with a bit of a shakiness in her voice. “I mean that couldn’t really happen, right?”

Julianna M. Cruz was inspired to write The Tales of Tommy and Teresa Trout by her students’ curiosity. She teaches elementary school in Riverside, California and raises trout every year to enrich her students’ learning experience. “The kids learn so much from the Trout in The Classroom program. I’m really grateful to the Department of Fish and Game and The Deep Creek Fly Fishers Club for making such a wonderful program available.” Juliana loves to be in, and study about, nature, so sharing her enthusiasm with children leads to many teachable moments not soon forgotten.
